The Sweetest Thing I Have Ever Seen

August 24, 2009

Wonderful use of stop-motion animation and brazen nostalgia for the NES combine to make this masterpiece:

Great as this is, it got me thinking.  Would the Rolling Stones have written songs about old technology their fathers invented?  Are there any Zeppelin tunes about old Singer sewing machines?  Did Ozzy ever write about train sets (on second thought take that back)?  First Bob Dylan gets arrested, now the kids have lost their edge.  Where is the sneer, the hatred for anything but the present?  Ladies and gentlemen, we have finally entered the final stage in our collective retro worship.  May God have mercy on us all.

Holy crap, that’s amazing. It would have been so much easier to fake, but it looks like they did it… old school style. That’s the most dramatic representation of Tetris I’ve ever seen.

But re: your point on nostalgia, as retro as Nintendo is, 8-bit/chiptune music is still a pretty avant-garde scene today. Just because the technology is antique doesn’t mean the sound, or the way it’s used, is.
